Digital Detox - I did it!

First off, WHAT A GREAT CHALLENGE! I think deep down, we all knew we are sorta addicted to our technology and social media - what we didnt know was HOW MUCH. So, if you were anything like me, hats off to you for accomplishing this challenge. It was definitely tougher than it looked!

My experience: man, social media has become really ingrained into my personal life, it has almost become routine for me to just nonchalantly turn on Facebook or Instagram and just scroll through it FOR HOURS!! ALL THE VIDEOS! MEMES! POSTS!!! MUST.....KNOW....EVERYTHING...!!! The ease of accessing these anytime, anywhere on your phone also makes this a big problem. But for this challenge, I did it. In order to ensure that I succeeded at this challenge, I first had to contact all my loved ones to let them know what I intended to do, that I was safe, and to expect not to hear from me for a day. Next, I locked my phone in my cupboard (reminding me of the times when I was studying for my national examinations) and headed out!

My first stop was Black Dog Cafe by Lake Elle. Wonderful coffee and picturesque views, what more could I ask for? Next I headed on to the beach with my flatmate to enjoy a day out in the sun (I havent seen the sun in too long). At around 5, I drove myself to Winthrope Park for my weekly Frisbee session and rounded off the day with dinner at Gordo's and some beer with my frisbee mates. A whole day with no communications or social media, I DID IT! Now, how do I claim my badge?

  1. I’m impressed!! The only way I can do this is if I am way offshore in a sailboat, some third world country that doesn’t have Wi-Fi everywhere, or a cruise ship that charges an arm and a leg for internet access. How did you decide where to eat? Surely you would have made a better choice? How did you decide what to eat at Gordos? How did you decide to go to the beach? What about the weather? Which beach had rip tides? GASP!!! Give this blogger a badge.

    BTW, it’s Lake Ella.
Also, what beach did you go to? Some are better than others based on what you are looking for . . .
